[HOWTO] Step by step unlock branded MF60 3G router

Step-by-step on unlocking ZTE MF60

This is the only REAL successful unlock MF60 Comviq unlock available yet to date.

What you need

  • Branded ZTE MF60 3G router. I tested this method with Comviq (tele2) Sweden branded one, haven't try with Telstra one since I don't have it.
  • MF60 Driver. I can't find this on official ZTE site but I downloaded it from UK carrier here. You should download the windows version.
  • Telenor's firmware (get it here
  • DC-unlocker tool and 7 EUR money. (Don't refill the credit just yet, wait until it detected your router)
  • Time around 5-10 mins
Please read through the whole step-by-step including the update section first before you proceed. Some reader found an easier way to unlock the device but it might not work on all devices.

Let's start!

  1. Install the MF60 driver, that you downloaded from second bullet above.

  2. Plug the router to your machine
  3. Start the telenor firmware upgrade tool. Wait until the "upgrade" button become clickable.
  4. Here windows should pop-up and say that new device is detected! Something similar to this.
  5. Close the telenor firmware upgrade tool.
  6. Now your router is on something called diagnostic mode.
  7. Wait until windows finished installing new hardware as on the image on step 4
  8. Start DC-unlocker
  9. Try detect it with ZTE modem
  10. If it's detected then now you can pay for the unlock credit and unlock the router
  11. You can even use it in USB mode from here but you probably notice that the battery indicator is dissapeared. To get the battery indicator back you type "AT+ZCDRUN=F" without quote in the DC-unlocker. Restart the router, your battery indicator will be back but you will lose USB mode.
  12. Thanks, hope you success unlocking it and the last step is to restart the router!

I'll try to add more image for every step soon. Please leave me a comment on your result, I did managed to unlock 2 of this router without any problem.

I bought these router from Clas Ohlson in Sweden since 2012 when they put this thing on sale. I bought one for 99sek and another one for 199sek. But I can't seem to find the cheap one of this anymore. The original price is 399sek but it's already a bargain for such a device.

Bankie

*UPDATE1* I updated the guide with some more images.
*UPDATE2* There're some reader that could use the latest DC-unlocker (V1.00.1005) to unlock the device without any involvement of telenor tool. However, I failed to do that on all 4 devices that I have. If you can detect the device without the tool, you probably have different batch of the device than me.
*UPDATE3* It seem that this method can also unlock Telstra branded device too.
*UPDATE4* One of the reader found a nice way to debrand/unbrand the device. So you could use the original ZTE firmware instread. I'll make a guide on that soon.

    2. Hi,
Is it comviq mf60 one that you tried to unlock?

      Delete
    3. yes it is. I have now been able to get win7 to start installing drivers after starting telenor update, but the installation fails and therefore cannot be detected in dc-unlocker

      Delete
    4. I have manually been able to install as a modem, i.e. the zteusbmodem driver ZTE Proprietary USB Modem and can ask modem "fråga modem" and get replies on for example ATI1 where it replies it has the BD_COMVIQSEMF60V1.0.0B03 and the IMEI.

2 other drivers are failing the ZTE WCDMA Technologiees MSM for ports

    5. So can you unlock the router now? Since it's detected by the dc-unlocker. I don't quite understand your second paragraph through.

    6. Sorry I made a rookie mistake. I will delete my comments (all that was needed was a restart). Thank you for setting up this guide.

    8. Yes, Success for Swedish Comviq locked ZTE MF60!

Tried they guide on http://www.heawenson.com/upplasning-av-comviq-zte-mf60-mobilt-bredband/ before without success.

thank you for providing this guide.

    9. Yeah, I found that there's no REAL working unlock solution on this really available even I unlocked this thing long long time ago. That's why I decided to write one. I actually read that guide too but he seem got a lucky defect one. You're welcome!

  2. I updated the blog post a bit on the last step that you need to restart the router to get it working.

  5. Hi! It's working now. When I closed the Telenor upgrade program the modem and ports disappeared from device manager, so I just disconnected the usb-cabel and the modem was stucked in "diagnostic mode" and I could unlock it with dc-unlocker. See device manager what ports to use in dc-unlocker and set the model as "unknown zte modem"! Thank You!

  7. Hi!

I have Comviq ZTE MF60 and unlocked it following described procedure. It works!

Question1: what new firmware would you recommend if I'd like to substitute Comviq firmware with another one? What firmware fits best for Comviq SE modems?

    Question2:
How to get back to "diagnostic" mode after I entered AT+ZCDRUN=F ? and get battery indicator back?

    1. Hi,

      Glad I could help.

Q1: No, You cannot install any firmware else than the one provided by Comviq. I has some check that I couldn't figure out.

Q2: After you enter the command in DC-unlocker. Just restart the router. It will comes back.

    2. But after unlock only Telenor.no upgrade tool still detects modem via USB and "Upgrade" button became active. I didn't dare to push it. Probably it should upgrade from Comviq.se firmware to Telenor.no firmware. And probably than could be a solution to install "normal" ZTE firmware... ?

    3. Q2.
it's clear with coming back from USb- "diagnostic" mode back and battery appears again after AT+ZCDRUN=F command and restart.

But question was: how can I get once more again to "diagnostic" mode after I applied AT+ZCDRUN=F and switched off "diagnostic mode" ?

    4. @Anonymous: Even you press upgrade, the process will fail and say something like firmware is not compatible.

@Razor: To get back to diag mode, just rerun the telenor upgrade tool as in step 3 and 4

  8. I just found that the new version of DC-unlocker software (1.00.1005) will detect the Comviq ZTE MF60 directly without using the Telenor firmware so this new version of DC-unlocker will unlcoked it fast and easy now.

    1. I'd like to reply to "AnonymousMarch 2, 2013 at 9:34 AM" that it's not true. DC-unlocker 1.00.1005 doesn't detects Comviq MF60. I tried it yesterday and didn't manage to it until Telenor.no update software was used. After Telenor.no I did get contact to DC-unlocker.

    2. Hi,

As Razor said, the tool should not detect the router by itself. It could be that you didn't have Comviq branded one or you could have a lucky defect one.

      Delete
    3. I have now succeeded unlocking two Comviq ZTE MF60 with DC-unlocker 1.00.1005 version without using the Telenor firmware to detect it so at least for me the latest version of DC-unlocker is able to fully enable the Comviq ZTE MF60 usb interface and then detect it so Windows will start installing the drivers for it. You must have ALL the drivers for ZTE MF60 available (step 1 in the description above) so it will be COMPLETELY installed once it is recognized by Windows (I am using Windows XP). It is good to have the device manager window open so one can see that the ZTE MF60 is COMPLETELY insatlled (no questionmarks). You may also have to close DC-unlocker when the ZTE-modem is completely installed and then start DC-unlocker again but then it should work or at least it has worked for me I should say.

I have also unbranded one Comviq ZTE MF60 and also discovered what you found out about the changed name of the wifi network and changed password both for the wifi network and to log in (NOW admin).

THANKS for the guide anyhow, if DC-unlocker version 1.00.1005 is NOT working your method does work even though it may be a little tricky as it seems that the connection with Comviq ZTE MF60 will disappear again after a few seconds when Telenor firmware is closed (may be some time out in the maintenancs mode) so one need to start DC-unlocker quite fast after the Telenor firmware is closed.

    4. Hi,

I just bought two more of comviq MF60 today. Without telenor firmware, DC-unlocker 1.00.1005 failed to detect my device. It's probably I have the old batch of the device (full yellow box, while now it's in half orange half grey) or if you had at least once run the telenor tool while your router is plugged in, it's already in diag mode. There's no such thing like timeout. I used to stay in that mode (without battery indicator) for few days.

    5. OK, strange because I used a computer that had NO Telenor firmware tool and also used a brand new Comviq ZTE MF60 in an old orange box that had never been exposed to any other connections before. What I did was:
      1) I run the ZTE installation program that also installs device drivers on the computer.
      2) I removed the sim-card on the ZTE MF60.
      3) I installed the battery but did NOT turn on the ZTE MF60.
      4) I Connected the ZTE MF60 to the laptop with the usb cable.
      5) I Started the DC-unlocker 1.00.1005 software.
      6) I selected ZTE modems and auto mode and then start detection.
      7) I wait until DC-unlocker identifies the unit and Windows starts installing the device drivers from point 1 above. I can also see that ZTE MF60 is identified as locked. I can follow the installation in another window where I have Windows Device Manager open.
      8) I close DC-unlocker when all device drivers are installed and then directly start it again and go through point 5 to 7 above before I select the unlock function.

Did nothing happen when you started DC-unlocker 1.00.1005 as far as windows recognizing ZTE MF60 and turning it on?

I will later on this week try unlockina a new Comviq ZTE MF60 on another computer that have never been exposed to any ZTE modems before and see if I can get it to work there to because it may be some old drivers that are on my computer that makes the difference.

    7. I've tried to unlock one more Comviq MF60 and used instruction provided by "AnonymousMarch 3, 2013 at 8:00 PM" and failed with this. DC-ulocker 1.00.1005 doesn't detect MF60 in Win7.

I started device manager and noted that in Win7 devices with a name "Ports (COM, LPT) ZTE Diagnostics Device and ZTE UI AT Interface) " do not appear until Telenor.no upgrade tool get started.

Probably in WinXP COM port creation works in another way and it's quite noticeable - much slower.

In Win7 it doesn't work so smoothly as in WinXP and Telenor.no tool is a good finding of Bankie. I suggest to download it because software engineers from TELE2 also can read this blog and going to "fix" leakage soon with yours and my help :) You can make an experiment with device manager. Start it an connect branded (unlocked) Comviq MF60 to your Win7 PC. You can note that some USB devices will appear but not COM port. Until COM port is granted DC-unlocker cannot "see" it.

Comviq firmware "disables" COM port creation in Win7.

There are 3 ways to do it:
      1. Enable Telenor.no tool that has more priority over Comviq firmware and "grands" access to COM ports (thanks to software engeneers in Norvay :) )

      2. Use WinXP. It seems that WinXP working faster than Win7 and "have advance in time" to create COM port link before Comviq firmware disables it while device recognition in Win7 works more slowly and Comviq firmware "takes" initiative first.

      3. You can try to "stick" between Comviq firmware when you are restarting your MF60. Restart MF60, it could take several restarts and try do detect your device with DC-unlocker.

I used in fact the same "method" to upgrade to original ZTE firmware. In normal circumstances when you are pressing "UPGRADE" button Comviq is "already in the place and already waiting you" to disable upgrade procedure so you are getting "error massage" or "Best wishes from Comviq" :)

When you are restarting or setting to default (long press on WPS and Power) Comviq boot manager goes little bit after upgrade software that "Catches" COM port first. So your task is to come faster than Comviq Firmware going to take an advance over COM port in your PC.

I hope my explanation looks reasonable, reply if you have other perception ...

      Best regards from Razor

    8. As I was curious why others seemed not to able to unlock Comviq ZTE MF60 with ONLY DC-unlocker version 1.00.1005 I just did a new fresh installation of Windows XP on a computer. To have a controlled clean environment I then ONLY installed ZTE Connection Manager (same as Heawenson has on his site that earlier described unlocking Comviq ZTE MF60) and DC-unlocker version 1.00.1005 and I then did exactly as I described above (step 2 to 8) and now I needed also step 8 above because the first time DC-unlocker executed the recognition process MF60 was not completly installed and DC-unlocker then said no modem but after closing DC-unlocker program and then starting DC-unlocker again it identified MF60 correctly and I could proceed to unlock it.

An english site for people interested in ZTE MF60 and also software to debrand it can check out: http://www.zteuk.co.uk/device/201204/t20120417_12418.html

    9. Hi,

So it seem like that the easier way to unlock the device is to just use XP together with DC-unlocker. Nice finding guys

  9. He-he he! :)
I DID managed to upgrade Comviq SE firmware to original ZTE firmware! He-he, I really did it!

First I unlocked SIM card accordingly instructions provided by Bankie. It worked as described from step 1 to step 11.

Then I tried to solve the problem "How to come back to the "diagnostic" mode after SIM unlock and applying of command AT+ZCDRUN= in DC-Unlocker becouse idea was to go forward and upgrade Comviq firmware to the "normal" ZTE firmware.

Bankie wrote that I just have to start Telenor.no tool again and all should work but it didn't - DC-Unlocker couldn't detect my MF60 again :( I tried different methods and even pushed "UPGRADE" button in Telenor.no tool but it stopped every time after 1-2 seconds.

Then I had remembered that in Win7 there is one good option "Run as administrator" and I started "As administrator" not Telenor.no too but anozer one from English site ftp://ftp.brightpointuk.co.uk/Technical%20Support/ZTE/MF60/ called as P020121016017156583545.exe or "normal" ZTE firmware.

SIM was removed, MF60 was connected via USB, and a button "UPGRADE" became active. So I just pushed the button but .... as with Telenor.no tool upgrade stopped after1-2 sekonds with error message. U-U-u-u .( :( - Do not get disappointed Razor - I thought just carry on!

I noted that MF61 started power automatically and I got idea to restart modem while it was connected to upgrade tool.

Ordinary restart didn't solved problem so I pressed UPGRADE button and then long pressed on modem power button, approximately 3-4 seconds and upgrade has started and continued without interruption!

After upgrade one additional disk has appeared in Win7 system with drivers installed. i reinstalled drivers with Autorun.

Vuala - got in ZTE original firmware: http://www.m.home/index.asp

    1. Hi,
Nice finding man! Really nice! I'll try to do as you said soon. Since this's your findind, is it OK if i make a guide based on what you found? I'll also double check again on diag mode. I'm almost sure that i can detect my modem again with telenor tool.

      Delete
    2. At the moment I do not have one more MF60 Comviq.se modem to repeat it again that I did tonight but next week I'm going to buy one-two units more and repeat all manipulations again.

But as I said after applying command AT+ZCDRUN I wasn't able to get contact with DC-unlocker. I really do not need it in fact now because the task is succeeded - I have original ZTE firmware. It works, I can read SMS and have full control over the modem.

      One negative moment :
ZTE firmware doesn't show WiFi password as it did Comviq firmware but that default password provided by Comviq is matching even after system reset to default settings.

SSIDname has changed from Comviq-Wi-Fi-Bxxxxx to uFi_Bxxxxx, where Bxxxx - is the same original number from Comviq.

Thanks for a good idea Bankie and a perfect step-by-step instruction "How to crash the resistance!"

      :)

    3. Hi,

I can confirm that I can go back to diag mode with telenor tool without any problem. I uploaded the image in step 10 on my unlocked one. You probably didn't wait long enough? I will try with your method tomorrow. The original ZTE firmware seem to have some improvements on wifi connection. My step-by-step is not so perfect since it doesn't have all the images there yet. Can I make a step by step based on your finding for unbrand the router?

Where did you grab your MF60? Is there any place that selling one of this cheaper than 399 SEK?

      Delete
    4. Hi again!
I repeated your process and it's work! I'm upgrading to original ZTE firmware now.
One thing i noticed, the original firmware tool will NOT detect your comviq router if your router is not already in Diag mode. So you should already in that mode without noticed it :D

    5. Hi, Bankie!

      1.
You can buy MF60 in ICA MAXI for 199:- here is a link: http://www.icamaxihemochfritid.se/underhallning--media/bredband--surf-c-1274-1.aspx
Let me know also if you'll find even more cheaper.

      2.
Probably you are right about diag mode - I had that - because "Upgrade" buttons became active both in Telenor and ZTE upgrade tools. My MF60 was detected via USB port by upgrade software and it was a key to the solution.
      3.
An idea to "Run as admin" I got from here: http://www.francesco-pompili.it/
It's in Italian but quite comprehendable "ESEGUITE IL PROGRAMMA NGM.EXE COME AMMINISTRATORE"

      4. Sure you can add to your instruction my finding about upgrade to ZTE firmware, just test it again.

      3. The tool need to run in admin mode by itself, the proof is that when you double click the tool to run. It will ask for the confirmation. That's mean the tool will run in Admin mode by itself.

  10. I just want to add that after firmware upgrade from Comvic.se firmware to original ZTE firmware you still be able to connect WiFi with defoult password provided with your MF60 but to log in ZTE http://www.m.home the old Comviq password (Admin) will not match. Use admin instead ( with small a)

I played tonigt with unlocking and tried to do things in "Wrong order"

      1. First I tried to upload ZTE firmware without unlocking of SIM card and failed with this. Firmware upgrade stopped after 25-30 %

      2. So I unlocked SIM with Telenor tool because in my Win7 DC-Unlocker doesn't detect COM ports via USB.

      3. I tried again to change Comviq firmware to ZTE firmware but have forgotten to close Telenor tool while upgrade process went on original ZTE tool. Suddenly I got such result:
      - Unlocked Comvic device with Telenor firmware!

Unfortunately language in the device is in Norvegian but you can change Webb-interface to English and it looks much MORE BETTER than the same from Comviq!

    3. Razor-Charlie! Did you unlock it without using DC-Unlocker? The way I did was to first start the Telenor tool, and while it was still open I unplugged the usb-cabel, closed the Telenor tool, and the usb-ports still in device manger. Then I unlocked it whith dc-unlocker. So maybe there is a way to just upgrade with original ZTE tool? I have to go to ICA and buy another one and find out!

    4. Try it!

I tried yesterday with "wrong order" but had not success in it. The idea was to avoid DC-Unlocker and save 7 Euro but it did not work.

In my comprehension there are 2 locks:
      - the first one is the SIM-lock and it doesn't depend on what type of firmware is loaded.
      - the other one is Extra-lock provided by Comviq firmware. This lock is limiting yoour acces to COM-usb port and decreasing our chances to remove SIM lock.

Actually there is a way to save 7 Euro and avoid DC-Unlocker but we have to have such things:

      1) Sofware that generates unlock code based on IMEI from your MF60
      2) Software that "enters" this code to the MF60 devise.

DC-unlocker "DO THIS JOB" for 7 Eurobucks.

Will you able to find a cheaper alternative and share your idea I'll really appreciate it!

      Regard, Razor

    5. To sim-unlock the device doesn't have anything to do with the firmware. Same concept with the locked mobile smart phone, you can upgrade with custom firmware but it will not unlock the sim. There's, of course a much cheaper way to unlock the device but I don't think we should discuss about piracy here. The same device is selling on amazon for around 800 SEK. We can have the same in 199SEK+ 7EUR, I think it's a bargain already.

  13. Hi, Bankie!
Following your idea about upgrade for branded MF60 devices I found one more tool that looks like Telenor.no tool. It is from T-Mobile in Poland, here is a link: http://pobierz.t-mobile.pl/uploads/files/94/dlmf60tmopleuv10001-windows_106.zip

I do not have locked MF60 devices to check whether it works like Telenor tool or not but they look very similar to each other. Can anyone try it who has locked/branded MF60?

IMHO this tool from Polish T-Mobile has to work in the same way as the tool from Telenor.no

    1. I assume that ZTE drivers are already installed.

      1. Connect your MF60 without SIM to USB cable. You do not power it on.
      2. Start devise manager.
      3. Start Telenor tool. You probably found out that your modem set power on itself.
      4. Start DC-unlocker, log in, choose ZTE modem - MF60, tyr to connect. Do not be upset if u get a massage "can't connect to modem".
      5. When you'll see that COM ports became available control ports number - set the same respectively for diagnostic and device.
-You have to try next steps quickly
      6. Push and hold power button, close Telenor tool, release power button and click "Detect Modem" several times (3-8 times) very quickly until modem will be detected. If you will not get success - start Telenor tool push power button, hold it, close Telenor tool, release power button again, quickly push on "detect modem" and repeat the same routine until you'll get contact with your modem. As soon it will be avalably - hurry up and choose Unlocking - Unlock!

Any idea Razor-Charlie or anyone else?

  17. Hi,

What Razor mentioned should work. Or my method is just start telenor tool and wait until the upgrade button becomes available, close the tool. Start DC-unlocker, set the modem type to ZTE modem (you probably miss this?) and detect. In this stage, your device will not have the battery indicator.

  18. Reason for opening a PayPal-account and buying credits was that my DC Unlocker founded my device monday/tuesday, I tried at least 5-6 times, then. And now I am trying every way as u told me (Razor, Bankie) but it wont work....... Neither way helps now. Can it be that Comviq/Tele2 or Telenor did something?

Whats the battery indicator look like? While Telenor-tool is ON there is no battery on devices display.
Have you tried to change the USB cable/port? Yes, even 2 computers.
Does Windows see ur device? Yes, every time I connect Telenor-tool Device Manager finds my device.

So I decided, then, to open PayPal-account and buy credits, which I've received today. Now suddenly, DC Unlocker will not recognize my device, even thoe Telenor-tool shows Upgrade. 22. Success for me!

    However:
For me, when I start the Telenor upgrade tool the unit enteres diagnostic mode, and when I exit the Telenor upgrade tool the unit leaves the diagnostic mode.
The solution was to disconnect the modem once the the "upgrade" button is activated in the upgrade tool. After disconnection of the modem you could exit the telenor tool. Then DC-Unlocker finds the modem, at least for me!

    Many thanks for this blog!

  23. I have managed to unlock my device, finally. The problem was that I had to take same COM-portnumbers from Device manager and select them to Application- and Deviceports, in DC-Unlocker. In my case they have to be different, ex 12 and 13 or 13 and 14. They were same before (12 n 12 or 13 n 13), and now when I changed DC-Unlocker found my device immediately.

Many thanks to EVERYBODY... U guys are awesome.

I just have one question, what ZTE Device Manager shall I use now? Same one from Comviq? (http://comviq.home) Or can I have 'original' from ZTE, Telenor, ...? Cause my device is limited to
16 Mbit/s and 5 users only (on Comviq software).

    Any ideas, suggestions?

    1. Hmm, I thought that DC-unlocker should able to detect the com port automatically. Anyway glad that you can unlock now.

Answer to your question: You can choose. If you want to be on the safe side, then use the comviq one. If you want to take a risk and try to debrand it, you could have better firmware (10 users). But if you do it wrong or in bad luck, you may lose your device.

Now I have 4 of these devices, I sent one home for my dad to use. I debrand one for everyday use and I kept 2 more unlocked only in the storage just in case.

  24. To change firmware is quite risky. If you will have a good luck you can try to upgrade to original ZTE firmware, but no guarantee for 100% success.

  25. Hi guys...

I have some questions regarding Comviqs firmware (http://comviq.home). How do I activate and deactivate roaming? And how do I select Telecom (Operator) which I wish to use abroad?
Because 3-Sweden allows to connect to 3-Denmark for free.

    1. Buy a local prepared SIM card in Denmark, set it in the unlocked MF60 and save your money for roaming.

You can select operators in your I-phone :)

You can by prepaid card from virtual operator based on Telenor.dk: OneMobile for 35 kr which has 500Mb with first refill:

My question is how do I select on my device, MF60, 3-Denmark when I'm there, instead of buying prepaid card. If I dont select 3-Denmark correctly my subscription can connect me to other Telecom in roaming and that can cost me fortune. : ))

I hope u understand me now.

    1. I've experimented with non-Swedish SIM card here in Sweden and MF60. The device doesn't allow manage roaming settings.

You can not choose an operator while Roaming is enabled, not with ZTE, neither nor with Telenor or Comviq firmware.

The only "feature" is "R" that showing the display and management interface. So no guarantees that your M60 will choose only Tre.dk while you are in Denmark. The best way is to have a device that is locked to Tre Sweden!

      Delete
    2. Hi,
I'm not 100% sure about this but from my understanding, the mobile operator should have a contract with the roaming operator first to have the connection. So in this case, 3SE should already have 3DK as their sole contract roaming operator in Denmark. For eg, if you use your mobile phone, it shouldn't lock to any operator than 3DK when u r in DK. In this case, if you have your roaming set to on, it should always lock to 3DK. I think the best way is to try the sim card in the phone and see if it will ever lock to other operator or not. My another assumption is that since it's the same operator. I might not even count as roaming. You could also try that on your phone first by setting roaming to "off" and see if you have 3g connectivity.

I have just installed the new firmware and as you indicated earlier, if you don't close the Telenor tool while upgrade process went on original ZTE tool you end up with the Telenor firmware.

So now I have the Telenor firmware which looks OK in English.

I have tried to change to a new simcard from another source and it looks like you can only change to a Telenor simcard.

Have you found this to be the case?

Could you kindly tell me how to install new FW?

      Thanks!

  39. Hi boysie37!

I agree with you that when Telenor tool is active during upgrade process even with ZTE tool you'll get as a result Telenor firmware.

I do not think that Telenor firmware is much more valuable than firmware from Comviq. IMHO only ZTE gives that real sense of freedom.

Comviq has made a rude job. They just filed out the best features and panted all in prison colors. :) Locks all around.
They get used to save money didn't hired a bit educated designers. Their last adds with Karim looks much better now.

Telenor didn't change so drastically from original version that was delivered by ZTE to T-Mobile in Germany and Poland. They just "gashed" Telenor's logo in and disabled some features like access to the web interface via m.home leaving canonical 192.168....

About ".. and it looks like you can only change to a Telenor simcard. "

    - You can't unlock SIM changing only firmware as it was said earlier. To unlock SIM you have to use DC-Unlocker or similar tool.
    - If your SIM is unlocked and you are still having not access to the 3G network please check settings for 3G network and change settings manually for APN as it shown over there:

    http://www.communica.se/support.asp?artikel=4191610&sid=1

My unit with Telenor firmware worked well with 3, Tele2, Telenor and halebop.

Personally I had only one unit with Telenor firmware and has already sold it. I do not have plans for further research of the subject (Telenor firmware).

  42. Works like a charm, well document stuff.
Few things that might help other:
    1) Dont click "oppgrader" button, you will get an message (cant update blah blah). It is expected. If you have clicked , don't worry.
    2) Buy 7 Credits
    3) Login to DC-unlocker after buying the credits, close dc-unlocker and reopen
    4) plugin device, detect (verify the settings), unlock and wait for reboot
    5) Type AT+ZCDRUN=F in the text area where messages appear (if you choose to loose USB mode)
    6) Unplug, reboot

I am not sure if the device needs the original SIM or not while unlocking, I had used my own SIM while unlocking rather than the default SIM that came with the device.

    Thanks Guys for the help.

you can do it for free. I just followed the guide over here and added a few extra steps.

    http://unlockdf.blogspot.se/2012/08/bam-zte-mf60-unlocked.html

It worked perfectly for my Swedish Comviq locked modem. I just want to add a few notes of advice to others.

    1. After installing the ZTE drivers, go to the folder using explorer and find the folder that contains the USB drivers. install them from there. It took me forever to figure that out.

    2. To get the list of COM# go to your device manager and open the ports drop down list. you should see them there.

    3. To get past the 'Version error' message do as Dumitru Catalin said above. Just power off the modem and power on again and hit ok. it will get you past the error.

Thanks so much for all the help!
